Snow cover at morning tea
Saturday 10 August 2019: North of Nursery Swamp – M/R,X. We will start off along the Nursery Swamp walking track before veering left (East) into the bush along the ridge north of Nursery Swamp. A few geocaches up for grabs if you’ve solved the puzzles. Around 10km, mostly off track. Assuming 6 hours -ish, emphasis on the -ish. Around 10km. Leader: Robyn H.

Snow on the lower hills as we met opposite my old folks home at 8am. We motored out to the Nursery Swamp car park. The Orroral Valley was lightly covered.

One doesn’t often see the start of the Nursery Swamp Walking Track like this.

We certainly needed gloves as we walked up the track, the snow cover increasing a little as we climbed.

We left the track and climbed around 150vm to the SE. A log of the traditional cache GC7ZJY3 Nursery Creek Views for those who needed it.

Wayne the bulldozer was out in front and did a huge job! We ran into a bit more snow and some scrubby areas.

Morning tea was called at 10.30am after taking in more views to the SW.

More gnarly going as we began to descend into a saddle.
The going gets a bit gnarly heading down into the saddle between SH1289 and SH1267
Wayne took us off the crest and around SH1287. Certainly slightly easier going.
More geocaching near lunch, with the final GZ of GC1M304 Cornflakes for Breakfast logged. I can’t claim it, as I’d not solved the puzzle (note that the cache is shown on the map segment at it’s original position, not at the final GZ).
Lunch provided views down to Nursery Swamp.

We only had 500m to go to the next cache, but it took us 40mins. Some slow going.
Difficult tors to negotiate

The final GZ of GC1HXBJ Colour in Canberra Purple was found and logged and we then looked for a way to get down. Not so easy as the view shows.

After a look about, we backed out a little and Robyn chose a beautiful route down the steep descent.

Great trip in difficult conditions. Great inward trip behind Wayne the bulldozer and homeward behind Robyn. A high octane trip, plenty of chatter – we seized the day!
