Track Notes
This was a recce for next Sunday. Useful, as I fluffed around in the new/old Lyrebird Trails a bit and hadn’t done the Congwarra Trail in full for yonks. Apart from that, a beautiful morning to slow walk, smell the roses and take a few snaps. Only trouble was the poor company.
Walk 1 – Cascade and Lyrebird Trails
Walked the Cascade Trail, then Lyrebird and the footpad to the bottom of the Snowy Corner route.
What would you expect to hear on the Lyrebird Trail – Superb Lyrebirds!
Came back to the right angle bend on the footpad and followed it a little S of E to the location of a seat from a long time ago. There’s a nearby cairn. A whoopsie to the S, came back, a clockwise loop trying to find the old Lyrebird Trail alignment. Came back to the cairn from the NE maybe along the old Lyrebird route I had in my GPSr. About turn and back to the NE. Very difficult to discern anything, the area was full of braided animal pads. A second small whoopsie. Arrived back at the spot where I left the Lyrebird Trail, followed it generally E back to cross the road to Mountain Creek car park. Spent ages looking for signs of Rayners Sawmill.
Walk 2 – Hanging Rock
A quick loop. Huge tors.
Walk 3 – Lookout
Lovely views, both to the Tidbinbilla Skyline and, in the opposite direction, to the SE rim.
Walk 4 – Congwarra Trail
Started at Greens picnic area. A nice little loop, especially the NE part. Next Sunday will probably start at the Adventure Playground and, at Greens, walk back up the road.
