Here’s where I went.

Track Nursery Swamp axe quarry search

Track Notes

A perfect walk for an introvert. Solo, you walk at your own pace and hear the birds. Not that I don’t like company, I do. But after a while I get enervated.

The aim of this trip was to search for an indigenous axe quarry. I had a location thanks to Greg H, but it was a vague point. No joy, so you can stop reading here.

I was around 30 minutes ahead of the joint clubs’ Wednesday Walk, who were also starting from Nursery Swamp car park. Had a word with Roger H who was waiting for them. But I didn’t see them during the day.

Walking at 8.45am. Some work starting on the NSWT and plenty of marking where stone and hardwood steps will go. 4.5km in 1:10 to the end of the track and the seat. A short break.

Continued S down the side of NS. I like the little rise where the route changes from SW to S. Continued on to the creek line that comes in from the W and is the usual route up to Nursery Hill. Crossed the creek to its S side and wandered W through open grassland to the spot I had. Nothing. Spent some time examining the nearby boulders, although I had little idea what I was looking for.

The only thing I recognised was a pig trap.

Pig trap

Gave up. Walked back to the end of NSWT.

Animal track across Nursery Swamp at lunch spot

Had lunch.

Walked out. Ran into the track workers and had a chat.

Party

Just moi.
