Track Notes

Another of Rob and Jenny’s dawn sorties, a great way to beat the heat of the day. Also a great way to start the day and to leave the arvo free for other things.

At least I didn’t have to meet at 5.30am. Living in my old folks home in north Cooma (Gordon), I get 15mins of extra sleep in and met the others opposite at 5.45am. A wedge-tailed eagle used the roof of our car for extra runway as we drove up Apollo Rd, taking of from the upside verge. Plenty of long weekend happy campers at Honeysuckle Creek camp ground and, indeed, plenty of walkers on the tracks we used. Great to see so many out and about on the Australia Day weekend.

The bush the the AAWT passes through from Honeysuckle Creek to the Booroomba Rocks car park is delightful. A warm, humid morning. We stopped at the open slab; there are never good views due to the trees and even worse this morning due to cloud and mist.

An easy climb up the Booroomba Rocks Walk. A lyrebird scurried across the track. Near the cliff, Jenny swung right along the track that parallels the cliff line. We climbed to near SH1353 and had morning tea. Very limited views.

Returned the same way. The cloud began to lift as we got back down to the Booroomba Rocks car park, so those coming after may well have enjoyed the fabulous views.

Thanks Rob and Jen. Great to meet new walkers in the party too.
