Perfect set up for bike geocaching

Tuesday 10 July: A georide with Marmaduke Rothschild – E. Sore feet preclude me doing Ian ‘the granite hunter’s’ L/R trips atm, so a geocaching ride from my old folks home out Point Hut Rd, south down Tidbinbilla Rd to Tharwa and back.

Summary

Distance: 23.3km | Climb: flat-ish on a bike | Time: 9.30am – 1.15pm (3hrs 45mins), including 15 mins of breaks | Grading: M

Track Notes

A 9.30am start from my old folks home, so the frost had melted. A bit cool at the start though. But turned into a beautiful Canberra winter’s day – blue sky, little or no breeze. A joy (particularly with my sore feet) to be out.

An excellent road series to cache – many of the hides (particularly those in guard rails) we could ride up beside and nearly grab them whilst on our steeds. One cache had the last log as “no hint, no find” – I had MR with me!

I really only post this to share a photo of the ‘tree with the hole in it’ out the Point Hut Road; to let readers know that you can get a good coffee at the Tharwa General Store (nice young lad behind the counter today); and to share the photo of the Engineered Log Jam on the Murrumbidgee River downstream from the Tharwa bridge:

In all, 29 caches for me today.

Thanks Roger for an excellent morning
