Leader Lauren takes in the view from near SH1353

Saturday 1 December: Starting summer at Booroomba – S/E. This is a walk for those who like me, who have spent most of the colder months hibernating and are mourning the loss of their fitness. We will car pool from Lanyon marketplace at 10am, and head to the Honeysuckle Creek campground to start walking by approximately 10.45am. We will follow the track to the Booroomba rocks car park, before heading up, up, and up to the rocks. We will take a break up the top to soak up the spectacular views, and may like to explore the clifftops over to the highest point. There is no pressure to walk quickly, with total distance around 12 km (rating: short), and paths the whole way unless we explore up top (rating: easy, but steep in parts). Allow around 5 hours for a nice ramble, with time to catch our breath on the way up. If you are new to Canberra, this will be a great intro in to some of the awesome landscapes of the ACT! All welcome.

Summary

Distance: 10.8km | Climb: 500m | Time: 10.30am – 2.50pm (4hrs 20mins), including 30 mins of breaks | Grading: M/E; M(8)

Track Notes

A lovely and gentle ramble to Booroomba Rocks. We started from the Honeysuckle Creek camp ground and walked the AAWT to the Booroomba Rocks car park, mainly because the town car providing transport would probably have bottomed out on the drive in. But it is a lovely walk, the bush looking perfect after a little rain and before it warms up too much.

Lovely grasses and tea-tree in the creek lines. A brief stop at the slab, but we went on to the car park for morning tea in the shade.

A little huff and puff up the hill for lunch at the cliff edge. Lots of people around, enjoying a great day out like us. Always love the views!

Then on up to near SH1353 for more views.

Reversed out home.

Flowers

A great ‘slow walk’ walk, OK for my poor sore feet, which suffered a bit towards the end.

An excellent leader and great company from old and new friends. Thank you all!
