Walking the unnamed creek | Tall timber near Bombay Creek
Tuesday 25 February: Bombay Creek circuit – M/M-R. A shady circuit in the Tallaganda State Forest and State Conservation area. No spectacular points but varied forest, ferns, a charming unnamed creek with two granite cascades, and some dry-foot crossings of Bombay Creek. Parking at ~ 431E, 706N (GDA94) on the Jinglemoney Fire Trail, walk NE for ~ 5km to the junction with Bombay FT, then off track down an unnamed tributary to Bombay Creek. We then follow informal tracks up Bombay Creek and another of its tributaries, to rejoin our morning route at ~ 350E, 713N. Some light to moderate scrub, loose stoney ground underfoot and level rock-hopping. About 15 km, an undulating route that descends and climbs 480 metres. Map: Bombay. Leader: Linda G. 11 of us met at Spotlight in Queanbeyan, then drove in 3 cars via the Kings Highway, Captains Flat Rd, Briars Sharrow Rd, Plains Rd, Hoskinstown Rd, Rossi Rd, Galvins Creek Rd and Jinglemoney Fire Trail.

Track Notes

A 5.6km wander along the Jinglemoney FT until our fearless leader directed that we turn into the bush.

Then 2km down the unnamed creek. Quite pretty, with bluffs, rocky bits, ferns and nearby dry Sclerophyll forest with tall trees.

Near Bombay Creek we joined a motor bike track which quickly took us 2.8km up Bombay Creek for lunch.

Mutinous mumblings caused us to leave the track and head upstream through the bush beside the creek for another 1.9km. We replenished water, then returned to the bike track junction.

A further 2.3km on bike track and then through the bush, up an unnamed tributory to Bombay Creek, to rejoin the Jinglemoney Fire Trail. 1.1km back to the cars.

A great circuit with plenty of interest in a different area to NNP. A consumate leader and several party members with great knowledge of the flora.
