Ramsay trig

Saturday 15 October 2023: Mt Ramsay Trig – S/M. Rare opportunity to explore bushland on private property east of Murrumbateman. The walk is approximately 8Km with 450m of ascent. It is mostly off track through shady (unburnt for 35 years) woodland with minimal understory. The surface is loose and shaley and there will be allot of cross slopes as we explore a series of dry creeks and ridges, ascending to Mt Ramsay Trig point for morning tea. It is a great time of year to see wildflowers which are most prevalent along the creek lines. I will set an easy pace, allowing plenty of time to admire flowers and take photos. After Mt Ramsay, there is a steep descent on a loose shale spur followed by more dry creeks, spurs and ridge lines. We will have lunch either in a protected shady valley or near a dam, depending on our progress.

Trip Report

A long drive from north Cooma (Gordon) where I live. But so worthwhile. We gathered at the start point, setting off down a gully.

Walking a sheltered gully

The phrase was coined “clean country”. Beautiful, open woodland. I didn’t see an invasive weed all day.

Descending a spur at the southern-most part of the walk

Morning tea at Ramsay trig.

Ramsay trig

Copious wildflowers all day.

Donkey orchids

Native Iris were the most prevalent.

Native Iris (Patersonia sericea)

Plenty of gullies, spurs and ridges to walk.

Up a gully this time

Lunch at a dam. I had a little lie down.

More lovely walking back to our cars, the twisting route looking a bit like the ABC logo.

A rare opportunity indeed. So well done by Laeli leading her first CBC trip.

Party

10 walkers, including 2 first-time guests – Laeli H (leader).
