A few hours visiting/revisiting some of the parts of Booroomba Rocks, to work off some of the Christmas cheer and try to get in some sort of shape for Ian’s next Tuesday walk.
All done in around 4 hours door-to-door (from my door anyway) with an early start to use the coolest part of the day. Nice to see so many other walkers and families out enjoying the area.
We walked up the track from the Booroomba Rocks car park to the cliff edge and took in the view. Next, down around the southern buttress. Finally, up through the band of scrub and onto the marvellous runs of granite leading up to SH 1396. We paused for brunch. An inviting broad finger of granite took us down a little way for views SW to the hills of the Namadgi and NW over Blue Gum Creek.
Short and sweet, but quite scenic.
5 walkers – Jenny H, Rob H, Lisa Q, Ian W, me.
Next Tuesday Walk
Tuesday 10 January: McKeahnie Trig, Namadgi National Park – M/R. The walk starts at Kangaroo Creek four kilometres before Corin Dam. We’ll climb to McKeahnie Trig, visiting a number of granite outcrops along the way, then head southeast for a kilometer to more big boulders, before turning back. The walk is all off-track with slow going and difficult scrub for much of the route and some rock scrambling may be required. Bookings by the Friday night before. Minimum distance: 8 km with 500 metres of ascent Map: Corin Dam. Leader: Ian W. Transport: 94 km return. Limit: 8.
