Saturday 26 October 2019: Morning paddle on Lake Burley Griffin – M/W. How about a paddle on LBG in the morning? Meet on the shore on Menindee Drive (in past The Boathouse restaurant), on the water ready to start at 8am. Must wear PFD. Weather dependent (ring me on 0417436877 if in doubt on the day). No need to book – surprise me by turning up! Leader: John Evans.
Further Information
I put this on to test what reaction there would be. I was surprised! Maybe a better time is a Sunday arvo. Couldn’t do much with the high winds this morning.
Summary
Distance: 5.7km | Time: 7.45am – 9.15am (1hrs 30mins) | Grading: E-M paddle

Track Notes
We couldn’t do much about the wind this morning and we were fortunate to get out early and back in as it continued to pick up. 4 narrow pointy boats and a SOT. Shell did so well in (on?) the SOT, having last paddled many years ago. A real hard effort to keep up with the others.
We paddled round into Molonglo Reach which was a little protected from the wind.
With the rain last night and the direction of the wind piling up the water, we were able to visit a little inlet on the south side of the river which is normally closed off.
Plenty of company up the creek, with very narrow and pointy boats and large outrigger crews out from the canoe club.
We paddled under the second bridge (Stop sign gone), but quickly turned around when a water ski boat powered round the bend.
Paddled back down the Reach and battled the headwind back to the landing spot.
Thanks all. Must do it again!

26 October , 2019 2:25 pmHello John,
I was just wondering how to know about your paddles? Was it a CBC event? I have a SOT and mostly paddle around the local lakes, and also a few of the south coastal inlets. I’m not very adventurous, or up for extended paddles, but would be interested in knowing about shorter paddles, like the one you did today. I am a CBC member, but haven’t managed to be very active over last year or so.
Thanks, I enjoy reading your blogs.

26 October , 2019 2:38 pmHi Janice. Yes, it was a CBC event, so you would have found it in the Activity Program at https://canberrabushwalkingclub.org/ci/activity . A friend was in my SOT, another 4 of us in narrow pointy boats. You’d be most welcome to join in, either another CBC paddle I put on, or with mates from church. I;ll try Sunday arvo next, but I’m not free for a couple of week. I’d like to chat with you about south coast inlet paddling. Cheers. John

26 October , 2019 2:52 pmThanks for your quick reply John. I’m usually busy Saturday mornings, so probably didn’t clock it when I looked at the schedule. Sunday afternoons would be better for me. My favourite paddle up an inlet from the coast has been along the Tomago river from Broulee. I mostly have been paddling on my own so far, so it would be nice to have a bit of company, assuming I can keep up.
