Track Notes

Black Mountain, in the Black Mountain Nature Reserve, is another of the Canberra Nature Park areas. All in Canberra would be aware of where it is, the Black Mountain/Telstra Tower atop it being visible from most points within our city.

My first brush with it was in the late 1960s as a uni student living at Bruce Hall. We’d occasionally run up it at night time, although it was better to fang up it on my motorbike. My last walk on it was on the Cbr100Challenge route last March. We arrived around 9pm to be greeted by our support crew with important food groups, like salt, fat, sugar and chocolate. We were also joined for the next three hours by young ladies from my church. They were great pacers and chatterers.

Today it was just the esteemed CBC President and myself braving the threatening showers. However, Lorraine knew a thing or two about this old hill and took us on some footpads that I’d never walked before. Some great viewing spots too, down over Lake Burley Griffin and into the central areas of Canberra.

Some nice ups and downs. To much rubbish about, so we picked up a bit.

A great way to start the week. At least 4 other walkers out doing the same.
