The Smiling Rock/Baby face feature is located on the NW flank of the northern Hospital Hill spur in the Namadgi National Park.

Documentation/Comment:

• I have often described this feature to fellow walkers as an aiming point, coming out of the mouth of Middle Creek and heading to the Yankee Hat car park. Many have not believed me.

• At last I have found a reference, in JR Winston-Gregson’s 1978 thesis ‘A register of archaeological sites in the proposed Gudgenby National Park’. In his description of Joseph Greenfields or T Brayshaws Hut site, he references the bearing from that location to “Smiling Rock 155°. That projection lines up with the side of the Hospital Hill spur.

• Winston-Gregson also references Smiling Rock: 130° when locating Sinclairs Hut and well site.
