Trip Report
I last did Short ‘n’ Brutal on 17 Nov 25.
Short ‘n’ Brutal is the middle section of the Mindjagari Track Network at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.
A well-nigh perfect walk! One companion so my dear wife did not fret so much, Damian was happy to walk ahead and wait for me at various regrouping spots, I walked at my own slow pace and took it all in.
24mins to do the 1.2km on the Lyrebird Trail to get to the bottom of the spur pad.
Then the ‘brutal’ climb up the Snowy Corner Trail. It took me 1:15 to do the 1.5km up to the new seat, the track rising 425vm. I was ready for a sit down.
A few more metres to the Snowy Corner Decision Time.
A bit of relief from climbing as the track flattens and passes through two open areas. The final climb to Tidbinbilla Mountain skirts a lovely little cliff-ette.
A heap of pale rocks and a track marker identify the top of the eastern approach to Tidbinbilla Mountain.
360 degree views from the top.
Corin Dam is prominent.
Another track marker points the way down to the north.
The crest of the Range is in view, to the next objective and beyond.
Once down from the rocky top, the track passes through an area that continues to delight me and draw me back.
Our next regroup was at the Pimple turnoff.
From here, the track follows the crest over a few gentle bumps and rocky areas.
The third Decision Time is just south of Tidbinbilla Peak.
We popped up to Tidbinbilla Peak for smoko/brunch.
And for the views.
We left at midday and headed for home. Uneventful.
The Banggu Track descent and Camelback FT to the car was 3.6km in 1:30.
A very pleasant hike. Trust you enjoyed it as much as I did, Damian.
The AllTrails map is here, where you can pan and zoom.
