Trip Report

The description of Ragged Falls from the blog site Walk My World has drawn me for some time. What better destination, plus lunch at the Captains Flat pub, could amuse our group of friends.

5 of us all squashed into my car and we drove to Captains Flat. Around 2km south on the Jerangle Road was the verge parking on the east side of the road at the start of fire trails.

I got the parking spot correct, but immediately set off to the NE rather than SE, so the 700m walk in was a little longer. Views to the nearby dam and glimpses of the Captains Flat dam on the Molonglo River.

With help from my companions, we corrected to the SE via fire trail, then S-ish to join the correct shortest route at a fire trail junction. A few minutes later we could hear the falls. The start of the descent footpad was at a turning circle at the end of the fire trail.

Down and across a creek with a little water.

Up and over, then down to the falls. First, the plaque.

Then the falls. Quite spectacular – well, better than expected.

A couple of us popped up the true left side.

Our exit back to the car was via the 700m direct route!

We drove back into town, was joined by another friend and had lunch at the Captains Flat pub. Again, a venue and meal far better than expected! We ordered our lunch and lemonade from the public bar, then the owner set us up in the lounge with a heater for private dining. Highly recommended for the old pub ambience and a fine meal.

Around about an hour each way drive from Spotlight in Queanbeyan.

Trust you enjoyed it guys.
