Thursday 12 October: Southside Stroll in daylight savings – William Farrer’s grave – S/E. William Farrer (the ‘father of the Australian wheat industry’) is buried, along with his wife Nina, on a ridge of the Lambrigg property overlooking the Murrumbidgee River. It is a short (less than 2km return and 40m climb) stroll from the Point Hut Road. An obelisk was erected in 1938 at the site. Drive yourself to meet at the Point Hut Crossing Reserve car park, on the right before crossing the river. Car pooling will leave here at 6.30pm sharp. Sunset is at 7.15pm, with civil twilight lasting till 7.41pm, but bring a torch just in case. Map: Tuggeranong. Leader: John Evans 0417 436 877 john@johnevans.id.au . No need to book.

Track Notes
Always great to hear from Marmaduke and the offer of a morning’s caching. As we are gentlemen, we did drive-by and short walks, bagging GC1M53T Neighbourly Neighbours – The Final Act, GC7D07A Boboyan Bridge, GC6MPTW Gudgenby Gnoll and GC7CG4Z Gudgenby Gouge. I earned my keep today, but always nice to be working with MR.
I love putting on a couple of daylight savings trips each year. Always fun and you never know who you’ll meet. Bonus this evening, meeting the best 6 year old cow pat kickers (and their Mums) I’ve ever known. Also Greg and Sue, who know so much of the history of the area. I was going to refer the Mums to the CBC Family Walks coordinator, but she and Peter turned up. Perfect!
So we drove out the Point Hut Road, strolled up the hill and visited William and Nina. I’m sure they were glad that folks, young and old, visit. Lovely evening light.
Many thanks to the property owners who are always so willing to allow visitors on their land.
