 Soggy sandwiches for lunch Map: Braidwood 1:25000 Walk Description This walk was organised and led by Peter and Truus F as a CBC-sponsored Wednesday walk: Wednesday 12 June: Mt Budawang - M. All on track up a graded fire trail to the fire tower at the top of Mount Budawang for lunch and panoramic views. This was recently done as a CBC Sunday walk. This involves a drive through Braidwood and Mongarlowe. Leaders: Peter and Truus F. Meet at Queanbeyan Spotlight at 8.30 am. Distance: about 13 km. Total Climb: 430 metres. Map: Braidwood 1:25,000. Cars 240 km. $24. Meeting: Queanbeyan Spotlight store car park, 6 Bungendore Rd Queanbeyan East ACT 2620 - That is on the Kings Highway just east of the town centre on the right heading towards Bungendore. Meet in the car park beside Kings Highway. Departure Time: 8.30am. Weather: As of Saturday, the forecast for Braidwood on Wednesday is 0° to 14°, 90% chance of rain. 10 of us drove from Canberra to Braidwood, then via Little River Rd to Mongarlowe and Budawang Rd to the intersection with Mt Budawang Rd. Google Earth Track Notes Whilst we drove down faster than the rain was coming, we couldn't out-walk it. Coats on not too far into the walk. Great company from old and new friends. However, it was useful to test wet weather gear and general preparedness for rain - and a useful reminder how cold one can get in rain, wind and damp. As last time on 16 Oct 12, only a brief stay on the exposed top, where all the goodies like views from the fire tower and shelter under the solar panels are locked away behind a fence. And only a brief view to Pigeon House through the cloud and rain. Back down to the tree line for a quick and mainly standing lunch. The coffee in Braidwood was better, in a cafe with a fire. Summary Distance: 14.8km Climb: 450m. Time: 9.50am - 1.30pm (3hrs 40 mins), with 30mins of breaks.
