Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as an irregular CBC Tuesday walk:

Tuesday 17 April - An introduction to the Tinderrys - tor 066461 - M/M,ptX. An excellent, relatively easy walk for those wanting a look at the Tinderrys. The drive from Michelago to Round Flat fire trail provides spectacular views to the massive granite ridge containing the Onion, Tinderry Peak and Tinderry Twin Peak. We'll walk in the Round Flat fire trail, then strike off north and west to visit the tor at GR066461 (MGA 94). Return down Roberts Creek to the fire trail. Around 9km and 300m climb. Map: Tinderry. Leader: John Evans - jevans@pcug.org.au, 0417 436 877. Transport: ~$12 per person.

8 of us met at the Michelago general store, then drove to the 2-car parking area at the S end of the Round Flat Fire Trail.

Track

Poor Jenny was still suffering, but was able to drive to the start of Round Flat fire trail and have a look. She then headed back. We'll do it again some time.

So two Snow Whites and five dwarves wandered off down the track. A nice morning, weather wise and company wise. Reached the right angled bend in the fire trail, after passing through the burnt area.

Continued N along the just visible vehicle track and bent away to the NW after crossing the second drainage line. Kept a good line between the creek and the spur, a halfway situation which is usually a poor choice, but for this particular route, is the best. I was glad it went well, as I had a living legend navigator with me. Intended to get onto the tor from the NW, but cut up too soon. LLN said it was good for exciting rock scrambling, but the gentler approach would be to go still further to the NW before the U-turn.

Still, we got to 'Linda's tor' for brunch at 11am. Nice views to the SW, a mite breezy. We could see the weather coming up from the coast. Granite chaser Ian enjoyed the tors.

Back off to the NW, then a U-turn to through the N and E-ish down Roberts Creek for a handrail. Again, pleasant granite up the side f the spur to our right. A simple exit, through one lower down boggy area and skirted the next. The pig trap signalled the nearby fire trail.

We walked out back to the cars.

Back in time to start work at 3pm.

A pleasant amble to a rock with a view. A bit soft for a Tuesday walk, but always good to show an area to new folks. Thanks Mike B, Linda G, Stephen and Lisa M, Mike M and Ian W.

Distance: 8.9km Climb: 350m. Time: 9.15am - 1.10pm, with 20mins of stops.
Grading: M/M,ptX; M(9)
