Getting There
This walk was organised and led by me as a CBC/Parkway Sunday arvo ramble:
Sunday 29 November - Calvary - S/E. Visit a pise (rammed mud) homestead site built c1870. It's located in the south Bullen Range just a (long) stone's throw from the suburb of Greenway. Around 10km and 200m total climb. Map: Tuggeranong. Leader: John Evans - jevans@pcug.org.au, (h) 6288 7235. No need to book. Meet at Parkway, cnr Sulwood Drive and Tuggeranong Parkway, Kambah at 1.30pm. Transport: ~$5 per person. Further details at http://jevans.pcug.org.au.
4 of us from CBC met at Parkway at 1.30pm, motored out the Tidbinbilla Road and parked at the entrance to the Paddys River stock route.
Further Information
Car pool for a short drive out over Point Hut Crossing to park at the entrance to the stock route just after the 132kV powerlines over the Tidbinbilla Road. A ramble through open country beside the Miowera pine forest and Bullen Range Nature Reserve, then track, to 'Calvary'.
Sun protection (hat and sun-block), closed toed shoes and at least 2 litres of water required. Bring arvo tea to share.
Last time here was 4 Aug 07. 'Calvary' is Site of Significance in the ACT PT11 (see here).

As it turned out, the sun-block and water wasn't really required - it was a cool and overcast day with showers over the Tidbinbillas. Crazy Spring weather.
Having come in the back door route, we exited via the more friendly front door route, following the footpad along the fence line and picking up the old track which runs down to the corner of the Bullen Range Nature Reserve and the Miowera Pine Forest area. Across a gate, we picked up the roads through the pine forest area and followed their twists and turns - which happily dodged the showers - back to the car. Grand views along most of the hill top inward leg and forest area homeward leg to the Tidbinbilla Range. Gibraltar Peak with its granite tors is easily recognisable. We forgot to have arvo tea! |
