This walk was organised and led by me as a private walk:

Sunday arvo 28 Jun - Parkway Ramble - Walk for Uganda training - Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve: Gibraltar Peak. There are plenty of walks at TNR to exercise us. We'll walk a bit harder than last week, until it's time to come home. Possibilities are the Gibraltar Peak track, or the redeveloped Cascade and Lyrebird Trails. Graeme Barrow has a new book just out on TNR and I need to buy it.

Be ready to leave from Parkway, appropriately attired, at 1.00pm after morning service. We will need to have eaten lunch by then (maybe bring some sambos and enjoy them after morning service with a good coffee).

Walk track

The afternoon was threatening and later commitments had to be met, but nothing deterred us from driving out to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. I needed to purchase a copy of Graeme Barrow's new book Exploring Tidbinbilla on foot. The book is a great treatment of the redeveloped walking tracks at TNR and written in Graeme's excellent style (his previous books contributed much to getting me walking).

We drove to the car park at the site of the old Education Centre and wandered up the marked track to the grass trees. Then onto the fire trail up to the top, with marvellous views back behind to the Tidbinbilla Range (see pic 1) and up to our objective (see pic 2). We made it to the top for a spectacular view over the TNR, a vivid green Paddys River valley, the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station and over the Bullen Range to Canberra (see pic 3). Worth the puffing!
