Getting There
Being in the area and having finished the Long Flat and Mt Clear circuit, it was too good an opportunity not to complete this little walk. Turn east off the Boboyan Road at the well signposted drive-in track about 15km south of the end of the black top (and about 3km north of the Mt Clear camping ground turnoff). |

Walk
This walk is number 13 on the Namadgi National Park map, Walks on walking tracks. It is rated 3 km circuit (1 1/2 hours), but can be completed a little quicker than that if so desired. Unfortunately the area has been burned. The well-trod track heads off from the car park area, flat at first then rising steadily. A marker post is set at the beginning of the loop, around 300m in. I headed straight on, which goes to the 1424m point on Shanahans Mountain. Once over the crest good views over the Clear Range to the Tinderrys open up. Nearer at hand, the eastern side falls away steeply to Shanahans Falls Creek. The track is well marked with little cairns and heads south, then loops back to the north west to rejoin the inward track. A pleasant little wander, perhaps a good place to take a visitor to Canberra with only half a day. It could be combined with a stop at the lookout about 4km north up the Boboyan Road. I did stop there for lunch and coffee. As always, fabulous views across the Boboyan pines area to the peaks of the Bimberi Wilderness. Time: 12.10pm - 12.50pm, with no stops. |
