Getting There
This walk was organised as a Wednesday walk by the combined CBC/FBI/NPA clubs and led by Peter W:
17 of us walked. We met at Cooleman Court at 8.30am and drove via Uriarra Crossing, right into Fairlight Road, left at the T-intersection into Two Sticks Road, right at the gate into Doctors Flat Road and along to park on the side of the road near the designated starting point. |
Walk
This was a typical wonderful Well... wander! It began with a 200*2 metre shower, as we headed down off the road through thick, more than head-high regrowth scrub which had stored a substantial amount of the previous night's showers. Quite refreshing in the midst of our drought, but we certainly need more. We took a spur down to Swamp Creek which we crossed and recrossed many times during the 4 km we spent following it. By lunchtime we were out in the cleared area near Dingo Dell Flats and enjoyed a 30 minute break. Pleasant walking in the open north to the hayshed and yards at GR687008 (AGD66), then a further stroll north in the edge of the timber along Mullion Creek to south west of Flanagans Hills. A bit of a heart starter up to the top of the hill then, with the afternoon drawing on, a 4.5km quickish stroll south down the ridge line to meet the Doctors Flat Road. A 2 km bolt down the road to the cars, which we reached at around 4.30pm. We were obviously too slow for our leader, as he had to forego the headwaters of Tinkers Creek! A nice walk in an area I'd not visited before. Distance: 18.8km Time: 9.15am-4.30pm, with 55 minutes of stops. |
