Getting There
Stan L organised this trip for 10 of us from church. We drove down Friday night, stopping for tea in Braidwood. We stayed in 2 bunk house (one for girls and one for boys) at a Christian camp near Ulladulla. |
Walk
We enjoyed a great walk on the beach on Friday night, cooked a hearty breakfast Saturday morning, then set off in the cars into the back country and to the picnic area where the Pigeon House track starts. Short but steep! The theme was set right from the beginning of the track and most of us were soon puffing and panting. The track climbs a spur for the first kilometre, then (thank goodness) levels out for a while from the 454 spot height. After another kilometre the track climbed a south east spur, with staircases built among the rocks. By this stage, I was ready to lie down and our leader needed to wait for me. We reached the huge rock top and I was confronted with a vertical steel ladder several metres high. The young and fit ones had already skipped up and were enjoying the view, but with my level of fitness and uncomfortableness with heights, I really had to screw up my courage to begin the climb. The view from the top, on a blue sky day, was awesome. We retraced our steps, me feeling more comfortable as the track went down. Afternoon tea, then the return drive to Canberra. Distance: 5.3km |
