Wednesday 19 August 2026: 80r cliff above Coree Creek *– S/R. Join me and my great guide Tim W, on a recce to the top of the 80m cliff that overlooks Coree Creek, opposite Devils Peak. If it’s a goer I’ll put it on again. Around 3km and 250vm.

Trip Report

I was last here on 16 Aug 16 and lunching on the cliff opposite on 15 Aug 26 (photos). Before that on 18 Nov 08.

A great thrill to get back here after so long, having looked across to here last Saturday.

Thanks to Tim W for the easy way to get to the start – drive 7km up Old Mine Rd (off Brindabella Rd just past the Blue Range Rd) and joining Blue Range Rd at Appletree Corner. Tim reckons Old Mine Rd is easier than the bottom of Blue Range Rd, which is a bit bumpier. Although you wouldn’t want to meet a vehicle going the other way on the narrow parts of Old Mine Rd.

And thanks to Lisa Q (who also had been in here in the last 3 or 4 years) – the 80r cliff is called ‘Lost Vagas’ on The Crag.

A 15 minute careful drive up to the intersection of Genges Trail and Blue Range Rd.

A mere 450m and we were at the top of the footpad.

Surprisingly easy walking.

Must be well used by climbers.

The pad was a little indistinct near a drainage line, but was soon picked up again. Passed near a saddle.

The pad continues down the south side of the feature and we wanted the top. So at a point we turned west and contoured across around 150m.

A bit slower, but not too bad at all.

A short belt of protective shrubs and we were out to the view!

I couldn’t get enough of it and I was thrilled to get back here so easily.

It was a long smoko.

All that was left was to walk out. However, this is a ‘V’ hike (down going in, up coming out), not an ‘A’ shaped hike. So we toiled up the 245vm, which isn’t much but it was a short distance across the ground.
