Wednesday 12 August 2026: Snowshoe in the Brindies * – L/M.Snow forecast looks good in the Brinies above 1100m on Monday and above 1500m on Tuesday. From Corin Dam via Stockyard Spur to at least Pryors Hut (1640m). That’s probably as far as I’ll get. Maybe Gingera 1850m). Leave Gordon 6am. You must have shoes and poles before then. No party splitting – when I cark it, we return. You must be well equipped with clothing and gear to combat very cold conditions. Around 15-20km and up to 1100vm climb.

Trip Report
I was last in the area on 29 Jul 24.
Walking at 6.48am, accompanied by Chris D for awhile.
Ran into the first snow at 1400m.
I made it to the helipad in 1:27, a bit quicker (3mins!!) than last time.
A bit more snow as we continued to climb.
We passed a tree that amuses me. You can fit a person in there (when it’s not so cold).
Not encouraging cover at the intersection with Mt Franklin Rd.
Reached Pryors Hut at 10.00am.
Snowy Flat Creek was running under the Road.
Deb had to spend a lot of time waiting for me. The waits increased as I plodded up the footpad to Mt Gingera.
I got to the well-photographed Snow Gum at 11.15am. We’d come via the real Mt Gingera tors.
A very quick smoko, as it wasn’t warm.
Our next leg was NW along the Ginger ridge, supposedly on our snowshoes. It didn’t look promising.
The conditions really didn’t improve and warrant stopping to put our shoes on.
Thanks for getting me there and back Deb.

Party
2 walkers – Deb M, me.
A couple of more shots of conditions on the ridge.
Lunch was called at midday.
We passed SH1847 at 12.30pm and began the easier descent to Pryors Hut. All over bar the shouting now. The leg from Pryors Hut back to Corin Dam was 7.8km in 2:54. The snowline had retreated far up from the morning. There was none at the helipad.
A dull day with a bit of wind. Gentle snowing on and off during the day. Thanks for getting me there and back Deb.
