Reliving my dislocated shoulder from 6 July 23

Thursday 25 June 2026: A Thursday ramble to Hill 1356 on the Tidbinbilla Rim. We park on Corin Dam Road just north of the Billy Billy Rocks climbers track. Heading up hill on a disused logging track we come to the edge of the old pine plantation and then head steeply uphill to the high country that forms the eastern rim of Tidbinbilla Reserve. Morning tea at a great set of boulders. Leaders: Rob and Jen H.

Trip Report

I was last in this area on 6 July 23.

Note to self – this is the sort of half day walks I should be putting on, but I don’t have the stamina anymore. Today was short (3 hours), sweet and very scrubby! Terrific fun!

We started on the verge of Corin Road, backed off a few tens of metres and headed up an old, disused fire trail. This met another old FT.

Turning SW, the FT contoured along. As anyone out in the bush at the moment knows, fungi are in abundance.

Around 550m along we began the steep climb to the crest. Just the luck of the draw, it was pretty scrubby. Our inward climb is the more southerly track on the map.

800m across the ground, 190vm climb took 1 hour. Smoko was welcome.

We were ready to leave at around 11.10am, but were a couple of hundred metres short of SH1356. Time was ticking away for a “back in town for lunch” half-day trip.

Jenny kindly dismissed SH1356 and allowed us to return via the tree I rolled into and dislocated my shoulder in 2023. I wanted to kick it. Waypoint in hand, said tree was found.

The country has changed a lot in the 3 years, lots more regrowth. We were fortunate to find more open going for our descent. I was pretty much following our 2023 exit, minus the swear words.

The descent leg was 790m across the ground in 53 minutes.

What a pleasantly exhausting “ramble”, thanks Rob and Jen. I enjoyed driving home, rather than in an ambulance.
